Good Book Scholars
GBS was created to provide support for parents in their active pursuit of Biblical Christian parent-led discipleship. To that end, we provide resources for parents to supplement parental Discipleship. GBS seeks to provide a setting where people, Christian and Non-Christian, can fellowship together, discuss the Bible freely, put its teachings into practice, and grow closer to God. To this end we also do business as: Loris Area Homeschool Group, Cooking Capable, and Good Book Players Theatre.
Good Book Scholars Classes
This past year we provided classes that supplement Christian homeschooling and have scheduled 2 more semesters of classes for the coming academic year. Examples of classes: Discipleship, Apologetics, Bible History, Reading, Writing, Tutoring, Math, Sign Language, PE/Health, Music, Art, Drama, and Sewing. We’ve also developed a discipleship training program and a Creation Apologetics program for adults and youth. In its 1st year this Ministry has served 26 students and their families. We also currently have a Family Style expository Bible class meeting once a week.
Loris Area Homeschool Group
This is a group of families coming together weekly to participate in educational activities. Activities include social events, 4-H (the largest chapter in SC), archery, clubs, field trips, speakers, workshops, festivals, etc. A family does not have to be Christian in order to be a member of this group, however, It is led by Christians who consider it a great outreach ministry. As these Christian families have reached out to other families this has spurred Bible study classes and other ministries. Over the past 5 years this ministry has served over 140 students and their families.
Cooking Capable
This is a series of workshops designed to teach those with special needs how to create simple, affordable, nutritious, and delicious meals. Workshops also include physical fitness and health activities. Cooking Capable is a nationally award-winning program started in 2023 by Ivy Prince, who started this program as a 15 year old homeschooler and Good Book Scholar student. Her/our goal is to go national with chapters in every state. The workshops can be done in conjunction with other organizations such as 4-H, Churches, schools, and Civic groups. In its 1st year we conducted 5 workshops serving about 40 individuals and their families and reached literally 100’s of 1000’s with a message of encouragement, caring, and service. We already have 10 workshops planned for the coming year.
Good Book Players Theatre
This is a Christian creative and inclusive production theater for people with many types of intellectual developmental differences and special needs. We have private school, public school, and homeschool students involved in this program. In its 1st year this Ministry has served 20 participants and their families. We have produced 2 plays and 4 performances with audiences as large as 85. Theater is not only a creative outlet for these young people, it is an effective means for learning and practicing leadership skills.
